The Kimball softball team visited Holdingford last Thursday, May 2, and left the venue, licking their wounds, after losing a Central Minnesota Conference double-header, 14-12 and 5-3. Game one was a slugfest, with each team blasting out 14 hits apiece. Defense was the deciding factor, as Kimball recorded 7 errors allowing Holdingford to grab the win. Kimball’s Alexis Rose pitched 5 innings, taking the loss, on a 14-hit, 2-strikeout, 6-earned run effort. Winning pitcher Alyssa Ohman threw 6 innings, surrendered 14 hits, struck out 5 and allowed 4 earned runs.
Kimball stats: Lauren Libbesmeier, 3-for-3, and 4 RBI-scored 2 runs, stole 2 bases, and walked twice; Shay Krippner, 3-for-4, and 2 runs scored; Raelynn Callander was 3-for-4, recorded 1 RBI, scored a run and stole 3 bases; Maddison Libbesmeier, Katelyn Lichte, Alexis Rose, Stacy Hurrle, And Shelby Scheifelbein all recorded 1 hit. Lichte, Rose, and Hurrle each recorded 4 stolen bases.
Holdingford stats: Amy Catlin, 3-for-4, scored 3 runs; Alyssa Ohman, 3-for-4 with a 3-run home run, scored 3 runs, recorded 3 RBI; Jenna Volkers was 2-for-4, scored 2 runs; Ashley Breth was 2-for-4, scored 2 runs; Samantha Maciej, Haley Huls, Abria Stewart, and Cortney Kostreba all recorded 1 hit. Haley Huls also had 3 stolen bases.
Game two pitchers were Kimball freshman Madison Libbesmeier and Holdingford senior Alyssa Ohman. Ohman was credited with the win, and Libbesmeier was charged with the loss. The Cubs played an errorless game but their hitting let them down. Ohman, pitching her second game of the night, settled down, and did not walk a single batter. The game was knotted after 4 innings, until Haley Huls popped a 3-run round tripper to seal the win for the Huskers.
Libbesmeier pitched 6 innings, faced 27 batters, allowed 6 hits, struck out 2, walked 2 and hit 1 batter. Ohman claimed the win, pitching 6 innings, facing 24 batters, allowing 5 hits, and striking out 7.
