Coach Mortenson wraps up another season

EV-W-K track season ended

The 2013 Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball track season has ended, and it was another successful venture for the team. A major reason for this outcome can be directly attributed to boys’ coach Jason Mortenson. One need only speak to or observe the actions of his athletes to understand that Coach Mortenson teaches kids much more than math; he teaches them the real meaning of sports competition. The coach wishes to express his feelings on another fulfilling track and field season.

Coach Jason Mortenson says:

“Well, we not only had to battle the competition this year, but Mother Nature proved to be a very formidable opponent as well. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the athletes (7 – 12) for their patience when we were stuck inside, and for their enthusiasm when we were able to get outside! As I reflect back, I realize how much we accomplished in our abbreviated season. Nine school records were broken or tied, both the boys and girls finished third at the conference meet, the boys finished second in the subs and fifth at the section meet! Austyn Schlueter finished sixth in the shot put and Connor Wittenberg took fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles at the state meet. Hopefully, you are all as happy and proud as I am, on all of your accomplishments during this short season!

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank our captains and seniors for their leadership throughout the season, be it at practice or at a meet. We couldn’t have accomplished all of these things without you. Sadly we must bid you adieu! The entire coaching staff thanks you for all of your efforts, and you are welcome to come back at any time for a visit. We have a lot of shoes to fill, and I hope that when you look back at your experience here, it brings a smile to your face; whether it was a practice, a ‘pb’ at a meet, or just the great friendships that were created. Thank you for carrying the torch that illuminated your up-and-coming teammates’ paths. Thank you for raising the bar for those to follow. Thank you seniors and the entire team and coaching staff (7-12). GREAT JOB!”
