It was a pretty warm day for a run on Friday, Aug. 30, but that’s just what the Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball cross country girls’ and boys’ teams did. Arriving at Maple Lake’s Nye Park early enough for a 9 a.m. start, the EV-W/K girls’ squad finished eighth in the 10-team invitational, and the boys’ team was deemed incomplete. Individual results: Bret Mattice, 20.09; Tyler Neu, 21.40. Coach Holly Hansen is pleased with the start. “Almost all my athletes who ran this course last year improved their meet time this year. They are off to a great start. I knew Emily Donnay would be a great addition to our team, but it was really fun to see her get in there and do a fantastic first Varsity race! Kudos to all!” Hosts Maple Lake Irish captured first place. The lady EV-W/K were led by junior Emily Donnay, finishing second overall with a blistering time of 17:00. Teammates results: Grace Kopitzke, junior, 28th place, 19:19; Brooke Winter, junior, 46th place, 20:19; Stephanea Roeser, junior, 50th place, 21:22; Maria Roeser, junior, 52nd place, 21:24; Madison Libbesmeier, sophomore, 60th place, 22:53.
