Cubs volleyball team loses tournament, gains experience

The Kimball Cubs volleyball team played in the Sauk Rapids-Rice Tournament Saturday, Sept. 14, and dropped three good battles against three worthy opponents. Their 9 a.m. match resulted in a loss to the Melrose Dutchmen (women), 25-13 and 25-15. Kimball lost its 11 a.m. contest to Holdingford, 15-25, 25-9, and 15-13. The final match for the Cubs was a 3 p.m. clash with a tough Onamia Panthers bunch, who took the victory in a 2-0 sweep. Kimball Coach Scott Heinen is pleased with the girls’ enthusiasm and heart. “We finished the tournament 0-3, but we will use this tournament as a bar to evaluate where we’re at as a team, and set some goals to build on and learn from in the upcoming events and future of our season. Like all teams that evolve, we will continue to work hard, keep evaluating things, and learn from times of adversity.” Heinen said that the kids are determined to be playing their best volleyball by season’s end. “The players on the varsity team are great individuals with great character, and together will work to our potential.”
