Cubs open season with win

The Kimball Cubs hosted the Falcons from Foley last Friday night, Nov. 22, at the Wirth Gymnasium. This was the opening game for both clubs. Foley jumped out to an early 16-5 lead. Kimball answered with a 16-0 run to take a lead they would not W-kimball-BBasketball-aa66give back. The Cubs entered the half leading 43-25.

The home team had a slow start to the second half as well. Foley scored the first four points before a timeout was called to refocus the Cubs. Kimball maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game to pull away from the Falcons and win with an 82-59 score.

Cameron Hunt paced the scoring attack with 26 points. He also contributed 10 assists, eight rebounds and six steals. Jarred Merchant put up 19 points to go along with nine rebounds. Merchant also drew two charging fouls. Joey VonWahlde was the third

Cub player in double figures with 12 points. Joey added eight rebounds and three assists. Mathias Hennen chipped in with eight points, six rebounds and three assists. Will Spaulding was a huge spark off the bench in the first half, and ended up with nine points and seven rebounds. The Cubs out-rebounded the Falcons by a 43-29 margin on the night. Kimball will host the Paynesville Bulldogs Tuesday, Nov. 26, before the holiday break.
