The Kimball Area boys’ basketball team cashed in their “frequent rider” miles last week, playing three road games in five days. Stopping at Royalton first, Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Cubs settled right in, scored early and often, and squashed the Royals, 64-23. Junior center Jarred Merchant led the scoring with 17 points and senior guard Mathias Hennen added 14 for the Cubs. The Kimball crew forced 27 turnovers, shot 25/52 from the field, and hit on seven of nine free-throws.
“They are a very young team and it showed. We had great energy for the game, especially on the defensive end of the floor. I liked the way we shared the ball (21 assists) and our defensive pressure throughout the whole game. It was a game where we were able to get everyone some playing time at the varsity level,” said Cubs coach Jay Klein. Junior guard Joey VonWahlde conjured up a double-double, as he scored 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds, and senior guard Cameron Hunt scored 8 points, grabbed 9 steals and doled out 6 assists. Junior Brady Faber had 6 points; senior Nate Overland, 4; junior Brandon Schiefelbein and junior Will Spaulding had 2 apiece.
