The Kimball wrestling squad participated in the Cannon Falls Invitational Saturday, Jan. 4, following a lengthy Holiday break. Coach Mike Schindler is pleased with the team’s performance. “After having two weeks off for the Christmas break, we came out wrestling a little flat, but overall we had a pretty good tournament. We placed eight out of 14 kids and placed fifth overall as a team.” Kimball’s senior Austin Schiefelbein recorded his 100th career win in the first round of the tournament. The Cubs were led by co-captains Blane Tschida and Quinten Berres, who both won their weight classes.
Summary: 106 Payton Schiefelbein fourth place; 126 Blane Tschida first place; 132 Quinten Berres first place; 138 Brady Mehr fourth place; 152 Markus Mehr third place; 160 Matt Donnay sixth place; 195 Devon Kelley fifth place; 220 Austin Schiefelbein fourth place. On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Cubs are scheduled to wrestle Eden Valley Watkins at home. This is also their Alumni night and the youth program plans to wrestle before the varsity. Then Friday Kimball travels to Osakis for a dual meet tournament.
