Cubs’ basketball boys fall to EV-W

The Kimball boys’ basketball team hosted Eden Valley-Watkins Thursday, Jan. 9, but the Eagles weren’t too neighborly, handing the Cubs a 64-51 loss. Kimball’s Jarred Merchant poured in 14 points and Cameron Hunt added a dozen of his own, but the Eagles overcame a 4-point Cubs’ halftime advantage, to take the win. “In the first half we did not play very well offensively. We had a number of bad turnovers, probably 8 or 9. Defensively, we played better than the last few games which kept us in it at the half, leading by 4. In the second half, EV-W stepped up their defensive intensity and we did not match it,” Coach Jay Klein said. The Cubs took too many shots early in their possessions, allowing the Eagles to slack off on defense.

“Offensively in the second half, we struggled and again had a number of poor turnovers. We also struggled with decision making,” added coach. Scoring summary: junior center Jarred Merchant, 14; senior guard Cameron Hunt, 12; senior guard Ben Serbus, 10; junior guard Joey VonWahlde, 7; junior guard Brandon Schiefelbein, 3; senior guard Mathias Hennen, 2; senior guard Nate Overland, 1.
