Ariel Laabs, Madison Hurrle, Amanda Roerick and Denzel
Atherton each scored 2 points. Marie Achatz made her first basket as a member of the JV team.
Katelynn Loehrer and Alyssa Zabinski played but did not score. We outscored the Lady Johnnies by 11 in the second half, to earn the victory.
Kimball v Maple Lake 37-27
After a week on weather cancellations, we hosted the Maple Lake Irish Friday, Jan. 10. Maple Lake started the game slowly but heated up quickly, jumping out to a 17-4 advantage. Freshman Caitlin O’Brien drained our first 4 points of the game, Alexa Ruehle knocked down a triple, and Emily Utecht made a shot to end our first-half scoring. The Lady Cubs trailed at the half by 8, 17-9. In the second half, Kimball was able to handle the Irish full court pressure better and would trail by only 2 at the 6:26 mark of the second period. Utecht hit 2 charity shots and a basket, Ruehle another 3, Kaitlin
Truenow hit a shot and Utecht again scored two more times to cut the lead to just 2 points. Maple Lake took advantage from the free throw line, making 10 of 13 in the second half to hold off the Lady Cubs. Denzel Atherton hit a triple and Ariel Laabs finished our scoring with a basket, 37-27 in favor of the Irish. Great effort all round by the Cubs as Abbey
Straley, Amanda Roerick, Marie Achatz, Alyssa Zabinski and
Katelynn Loehrer also played well in a tough loss for the Lady Cubs.
Kimball travels to Holdingford Tuesday, Jan. 14, and to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Thursday, Jan. 16, for two conference events this upcoming week. We are 4-6 overall this season and thank you for supporting Kimball girls’ basketball.
