Kimball girls have tough time with Rockford, Maple Lake

Monday, May 5, Kimball hosted Rockford for a Central Minnesota Conference double header. Fielding mishaps and base-running blunders plagued the Cubs, as they surrendered three unearned runs in game one, and lost, 4-1. Majeski pitched for Rockford and recorded 10 strike outs. Shaky play continued in game two, as Kimball lost, 6-2.

Game one highlights: Madison Libbesmeier, 3 for 3, double, stolen base; Alexis Rose, 1 for 2, stolen base; Becky Holtz, 1 for 3. Game two highlights: Stacy Hurrle, 1 for 1; Maddison Libbesmeier, 2 for 3; Lauren Libbesmeier, 1 for 2; Haley Schiefelbein, 1 for 2; Emily Utecht, 1 for 3, HR. Maple Lake twin bill: Kimball had a chance to break the game open in the third inning, but a base running blunder allowed Maple Lake to have a one-run lead after three complete. After four, Kimball was up, 2-1 against CMC powerhouse Maple Lake, but a walk and an ensuing error allowed the Irish to tie the game in the fifth inning. Kimball was shut down and Maple Lake went on to score two more runs, making the final, Kimball 2, Maple Lake 4.

The second game of the double header started with Kimball as the visiting team. The Cubs scored four runs in the top of the first, but defensively they picked up right where their first game ended. Kimball committed seven errors, allowing 17 Maple Lake runners to score, while plating just eight of their own. Kimball lost, 17-8.
