K-EV-W lady golfers get valuable workout at Charger Invite

The Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins girls’ golf team sent three girls to the Dassel-Cokato 10-team Invitational Monday, May 20. It was a good chance for Paiten Schreiner, Nicole Vossen, and Maddy O’Brien to compete with some of the best golfers in the area. Coach Kristine O’Brien is proud of the girls’ efforts. “Paiten Schreiner shot a 95, putting her tied for 10th place. The weather was a huge factor in the scores, but all the girls were troopers.”

The invite included teams from Waconia, St. Michael-Albertville, Monticello, Maple Lake, Big Lake, Rogers, Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Rockford, and K-EV-W (who did not participate in the team mix). K-EV-W boys’ golf team visits Howard Lake

The Greens of Howard Lake is where the Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins boys’ golf team “teed-em-up” Thursday, May 16, in a seven-school Central Minnesota Conference golf meet. Posting an aggregate team total of 192, K-EV-W marked an 8-shot improvement over last week’s B-B-E competition. Coach Jason Huschle talks about the remaining schedule. “Next week is a busy week. We have two 18-hole Invitationals; one at Milaca on Monday, May 20, and the other at Albion Ridges on Wednesday, May 22. Then Thursday, May 24, we have our final conference meet at Rockford. Our section meet will be at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell on Monday, June 3.”

Schools attending the meet were: Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins, Maple Lake, Pierz, Rockford and Osakis. Scoring summary: K-EV-W’s senior Cole Stang, 41; senior Patrick Latcham, 52; sophomore Cameron Flaschenriem, 57; eighth-grader Reese Jansen, 53; freshman Tony DeJulianne, 49; sophomore Logan Schlueter, 50. B-B-E’s Jordan Lewis shot 39, HL-W-W’s Jacob Tintes and Collin Benson each shot 48, Maple Lake’s Jason Pomije shot 40, Pierz’s Dustin Herold shot 39, Rockford’s Brody Harstad shot 38, Osakis’s Paul Hartmann and Mitch Tersteeg shot 43. Rockford’s Brody Harstad took Medalist honors with a net score of 38. Rockford took First Place with a net 166; Second Place, B-B-E, 169 net; Third Place, Osakis, 176; Fourth Place, Pierz, 178 net, Fifth Place, Maple Lake, 187; Sixth Place, K-EV-W, 192 net; Seventh Place, HL-W-W, 198.

Cubs softball lose to Bulldogs

The Kimball Area softball team continued their losing ways Friday, May 10, as they journeyed to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity high school and lost a tight one, 5-3.  The Cubs fell behind right from the get-go, surrendering three runs to the Bulldogs in the third inning. Kimball just couldn’t get things clicking, and too many base-running blunders prevented them from starting any kind of rally. Lester Prairie’s Burke picked up the win, registering 6 strikeouts, 6 walks and giving up 1 earned run. Alexis Rose took the loss for Kimball, issuing 5 strikeouts and 5 walks. She hit one batter and was responsible for 1 earned run. The Cubs’ Lauren Libbesmeier went 2 for 4 at the plate; Maddi Libbesmeier was 2 for 3; and Breane Meierhofer was 2 for 3, with 2 runs scored. The Bulldogs’ Rachel Heuer, Morgan Roush, Courtney Scoblic, and Leigh Felder had a hit apiece, and catcher Shannon Nix picked up 2 walks.

Cubs softball lose a pair to Rockford

It was a nice night for ball as Kimball traveled to Rockford on Monday, May 6, for a double-header. The Cubs were coming off of a 15-3 victory over Upsala the previous Friday. Errors plagued the Cubs as they committed six defensive mishaps in game one, and three in game two. The Cubs lost game one 10-0 and game two 15-0. Cubs’ coach Eric Primus remains confident.  “Alexis Rose struggled to find the strike zone, and as a result she was pulled from the game after we trailed 10-0 in the 2nd inning. Madison Libbesmeier relieved Rose. She threw the remaining four innings, allowed 2 hits, and walked 2.” L. Majeski pitched for Rockford, going the distance, striking out 10 Kimball batters and giving up no hits. Madison Libbesmeier did not allow any runs in the four innings that she pitched.
