Chain of Lakes boys soccer
The Chain of Lakes high school boys soccer team traveled to Glencoe Friday, Aug. 30, to kick off their 2013 season versus the Glencoe/Silver Lake Panthers varsity team. The Panthers proved to be stiff competition against the COL Roosters. Using the wind to their advantage in the first half, the Roosters pounded away at the Panthers goal, but were able to put only one ball into the net, scored by Ben Friederichs (Paynesville). Going into the second half with only a 1-0 lead and facing into the wind, the Roosters were able to keep up the pressure, eventually scoring two more goals, Trevor Meed (Paynesville) and Jose (Chilo) Viera each earning a goal. Jordan Roos (Paynesville) played three fourths of the game in goal with Trevon Mattson (ROCORI) finishing up in goal for the combined 3-0 shutout. The boys’ next home game is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, versus Minnewaska. All home games are free and you are invited out to watch and support the team.

Danzl scores hat trick plus 1 to lead Chain of Lakes girls soccer team past Glencoe Silver Lake 4-2 in opener.
COL would go up 1-0 on the first of four goals by Kally Danzl (ROCORI) from an assist by Mikayla Timm (ROCORI) at the 21 minute mark of the first half. Glencoe Silver Lake (GSL) would tie the game seven minutes before half time as GSL was able to slip the ball past Emily McCoy (home schooled) who was playing in net, to tie the game at 1-1. COL responded two minutes before the end of the half with Danzl’s second goal with Alyssa Meed (Paynesville) and Anna Wochnick (ROCORI) connecting for a double assist as COL went into half time with a slim 2-1 lead. COL came out strong in the second half with Shelby Teal (ROCORI) making six saves and Danzl scoring her third goal with an assist by Alexandra Stahlberg (ROCORI) at the 13-minute mark of the second half. Danzl would complete the scoring by COL one minute later from an assist by Abigail Mooney (ROCORI). GSL would keep the pressure on COL by scoring on a free kick over Teal’s head two minutes later. The rest of the game saw chances by both sides unable to find the back of the net.
Chain of Lakes girls soccer team starts out sluggish, battles back to 5-3 win at St. Johns Prep varsity
St. Johns Prep went up 1-0 at the 10-minute mark of the first half on a breakaway counter and a miss hit by the COL defense. COL would even the score at 1, seven minutes later as Kally Danzl (ROCORI) notched her fifth goal of the season from an assist by
Katelyn Parsons (ROCORI) to tie the score at 1-1. SJP would score on another counter that would just get by COL keeper Esme Heveron (ROCORI) and would go into half time with a 2-1 lead. COL came out in the second half fired up as Alexandra Stahlberg (ROCORI) would rifle a 30-yard shot over the head and into the back corner of the net to tie the score at 2-2. SJP scored again three minutes later to regain the lead on another breakaway, getting the ball past COL keeper Luca Rosemeier (ROCORI) to regain the lead at 3-2. It was all COL after that as Danzl scored to tie the game at 3, five minutes later on a free kick from 22 yards out that was able to get over the keeper and into the net. COL would take the lead on a goal by Parsons as she one-touched a cross from Danzl into the near corner past the SJP keeper. Abby Mooney (ROCORI) would add an insurance goal with 15 minutes to play off of a rebound from a shot sent in by Gabriella Wilke (ROCORI) that started as a corner. The COL girls’ team is now 2-0. The girls will be home at Centennial Park in Richmond at 4:30 Tuesday, Sept. 10, versus Sartell, and again at 5 Monday, Sept. 16, versus
St. Cloud Tech. They will also be at their other home field, Ampe Park in Paynesville at noon Saturday, Sept. 14, versus Minnewaska. Free admission, so come out and cheer them on.
