Chain of Lakes boys’ soccer team
The Chain of Lakes boys’ soccer team started the past week with a 4-0 victory over the Sartell JV-1 team at Ampe Field in Paynesville Monday, Sept. 9. Scoring for the Roosters were Jordan Roos (Paynesville), Ben Friederichs (Paynesville) and two goals from Jose ‘Chilo’ Viera (ROCORI). Roos and Johnathan Ward (ROCORI) shared the goalkeeper duties for the shutout.
The team then turned around and traveled to Melrose Thursday, Sept. 12, to face a tough Dutchmen team that had handled the Roosters easily the year before. The Roosters put out a defense-minded 5-4-1 formation and played the Dutchmen even for the first half and halfway through the second half. The Roosters had several chances to score, but just could not finish. On the other side, Roos made several major saves to keep the game tied. Then with 20 minutes left in the game the referee called COL for a foul in the penalty area, giving Melrose a penalty kick, which put them ahead 1-0. This changed the Roosters’ tactics who started to send more players forward in an attempt to tie the game. But near the end of the game, Melrose scored a twilight goal in the dusk to seal a 2-0 victory.
The Roosters had little time to mourn their loss as they faced another challenge Saturday,
Sept. 14, against Minnewaska
back at Ampe Field. This game proved to be another tough nail biter. Near the end of a scoreless first half, Uriel Rodriguez (ROCORI) scored off of a corner kick after a mad scramble in front of the Lakers net. The second half saw both teams getting chances to score, but the game ended with the Roosters winning 1-0 and taking their record to 4 wins and 2 losses.
Cathedral High School boys’ team will be taking on our Roosters 4:30 Thursday, Sept. 26, at Ampe Field in Paynesville. They will be at their other home field in Richmond Monday, Sept. 30, versus St. Cloud Technical High School, 5 game time.
Chain of Lakes Middle School team
The Chain of Lakes Middle School team started off their season splitting their first two games. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, they hosted Glencoe/Silver Lake at Ampe Field in Paynesville, and came away with a 4-3 victory. Christian Rodriguez (ROCORI) scored three of the Roosters’ goals and the fourth came off of an own goal. The team traveled to Prinsburg Friday, the 13th, and came back with a 2-0 defeat to Central Minnesota Christian.
Chain of Lakes Girls’ Soccer team
The Chain of Lakes girls’ team overwhelms Melrose 5-0 to improve their record to 5-0.
COL remained undefeated as Esmae Heveron (ROCORI) and Lucca Rosemeier (ROCORI) were rarely tested in their combined shutout. Kally Danzl (ROCORI) scored the first goal at the seven-minute mark of the first period with an assist from Katelyn Parsons (ROCORI). Mikayla Timm (ROCORI) scored two goals and Alexandra Stahlberg (ROCORI) would score a 30-yard shot as COL went into halftime with a 4-0 lead. Gabriella Wilke (ROCORI) scored the lone goal of the second half.
Chain of Lakes girls’ soccer team scores 3 goals in first half and hangs on to stay undefeated
Kally Danzl (ROCORI) started the scoring for COL in the seventh minute with an assist by Mikayla Timm (ROCORI). COL would keep the pressure on as Danzl scored again four minutes later. Anna Wochnick (ROCORI) would score COL’s final goal on a break away that started at mid-field. Minnewaska would gain some confidence by scoring in the 36th minute to make the score 3-1 at half time. COL was unable to get another goal, despite peppering the goal with another 19 shots. Luca Rosemeier (ROCORI) allowed one more goal in the 76th minute but would make key saves to preserve the win. Rosemeier finished the game with five saves. COL is now 6-0 on the season. COL girls next home game will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept 26, versus Minnewaska at Richmond‘s Centennial Park.
