St. John’s Prep girls’ soccer players Ellen Arnold and Alana Brenny have been named to the 2013 Granite Ridge All-Conference team. Ellen is the daughter of Margaret and John Arnold of Kimball. She is a junior who is a forward for Prep. Alana is the daughter of Michael and Beth Brenny of Foley. She is a sophomore who plays defense for Prep.

“We are extremely proud of our entire girls’ soccer team. It’s been a year filled with new growth and challenges,” said Stephen Larson, head girls soccer coach. “Ellen and Alana have excelled on the field and we appreciate their talent and leadership.”

Ellen Arnold started every game during the 2013 season. “She provided a constant threat up front,” Larson said. “She scored three goals and had two assists. Her speed and determination were never exhausted.”

Paynesville/EV-W gymnastics for 2013-14 campaign

Former assistant Jennifer Mrozek, of the Paynesville/Eden Valley-Watkins gymnastics staff, is starting her second year as the team’s head coach. “I have been coaching gymnastics at various levels for the previous 12 years at North Crest Activities Center in St. Cloud. I wanted to continue teaching and growing the sport of gymnastics here in Paynesville and the surrounding areas. I also run the Junior Bulldogs gymnastics program through Paynesville Area Community Education.” P-EV-W loses three seniors and a junior from last year’s squad, but this year’s team is young, with lots of talent coming up the ranks. “We will have Heather Arnold to lead the team this year, as she has been very powerful on vault and floor. Her consistency is cornerstone for the team,” Coach Mrozek said. Arnold’s varsity teammates Emily Weidner and Alison Gottwald are young and also carry a lot of promising potential for the upcoming season. “As a whole we have a young team with a lot of potential, and with hard work and determination, we will pull off a great season.” said Mrozek.
